Des « revenants » en mal de vengeance dans un village africain

ABIDJAN (Reuter) - Des pluies de cailloux, d'escargots noirs, de bouteilles et de fer s'abattent depuis le mois de juin, à intervalles réguliers, sur le village de Gattakro, dans la région de Bouafle, au centre de la Côte d'lvoire, rapportait, hier, le quotidien Fraternité-Matin.

Citant des témoignages des villageois, le journal ivoirien indique que ces pluies de cailloux surviennent généralement au coucher du soleil et qu'elles ont blessé plusieurs personnes.

Selon le journal, les villageois ont consulté plusieurs féticheurs de la région, sans succès. Un des féticheurs a lui même été victime de ces pluies de cailloux.

Les villageois attribuent ces pluies à des revenants qui avaient jadis fait du mal dans le village et ont été enterrés sommairement.

Les ingénieurs de l'institut géographique de Côte d'lvoire restent sceptiques, et relèvent que ces cailloux ne sont pas des météores. Une équipe scientifique s'est rendue cependant dans le village déserté par ses habitants, qui le croient hanté.

Sasquatch stabilisé

Deux femmes ontariennes disent qu'elles ont vu ce qui pourrait être le légendaire sasquatch dans le nord-ouest de l'Ontario la semaine dernière.

Helen Pahpasay et sa mère étaient au nord de Grassy Narrows, en Ontario, à environ 230 kilomètres au nord-est de Winnipeg, pour cueillir des bleuets mardi dernier quand elles ont repéré une silhouette massive depuis leur camion, vers 10h le matin.

« Il était noir, environ huit pieds de long et tout noir, et il marchait debout comme les humains, mais de façon plus - je ne sais pas comment le décrire - plus imposante, je suppose », at-elle dit à CBC News.

Russian Natasha Demkina, 17, has stunned doctors in her home country with her ability to see medical conditions inside people.

Natasha first demonstrated her extraordinary ability at the age of ten, when she told her stunned mum Tatyana she could see “two beans”, “a tomato” and a “vacuum cleaner” inside her.

The child was referring to Tatyana’s kidneys, heart and intestines but did not know their names. Doctors at first refused to accept that her astonishingly-accurate descriptions were genuine. But exhaustive tests have failed to discover any trickery at work.

Speaking through a translator, she said: “The only way I can explain it is that my brain sees before my eyes. I seem to have two visions — one is normal, the other I call medical vision. I can see inside the human body but not through it. If someone held something behind their back I wouldn’t see it.”

Mysteries of the Atlantic

Cardiff University scientists will shortly set sail (March 5) to investigate a startling discovery in the depths of the Atlantic.

Scientists have discovered a large area thousands of square kilometres in extent in the middle of the Atlantic where the Earth's crust appears to be missing. Instead, the mantle - the deep interior of the Earth, normally covered by crust many kilometres thick - is exposed on the seafloor, 3000m below the surface.

Marine geologist Dr Chris MacLeod, School of Earth, Ocean and Planetary Sciences said: "This discovery is like an open wound on the surface of the Earth. Was the crust never there? Was it once there but then torn away on huge geological faults? If so, then how and why?"

To answer some of these questions Dr MacLeod with a team of scientists, led by marine geophysicist Professor Roger Searle, Durham University, will travel to the area which lies mid-way between the Cape Verde Islands and the Caribbean.

Phylis Canion lived in Africa for four years. She's been a hunter all her life and has the mounted heads of a zebra and other exotic animals in her house to prove it. But the roadkill she found last month outside her ranch was a new one even for her, worth putting in a freezer hidden from curious onlookers: Canion believes she may have the head of the mythical, bloodsucking chupacabra.

But what folks are calling a chupacabra is probably just a strange breed of dog, said veterinarian Travis Schaar of the Main Street Animal Hospital in nearby Victoria.

"I'm not going to tell you that's not a chupacabra. I just think in my opinion a chupacabra is a dog," said Schaar, who has seen Canion's find.

The "chupacabras" could have all been part of a mutated litter of dogs, or they may be a new kind of mutt, he said.

As for the bloodsucking, Schaar said that this particular canine may simply have a preference for blood, letting its prey bleed out and licking it up.
